We spent our 1st Valentine at The Tamara Coorg, which is a Sustainable Luxury Resort in Coorg, Karnataka. And trust me there is nothing more idyllic than spending some quality time in a place where Nature & Luxury combine in such a unique way.
Escaping the Ordinary
Let the fun ride amidst nature begin! After having a fresh cup of coffee and a smooth check-in, the staff took us to our Luxury Cottage-style Villa in an electric buggy. It was also kind of a mini tour of the beautiful property of Tamara.
About our Luxury Cottage- As we heard, the architecture of The Tamara Coorg is mostly inspired from the Balinese concept of Tri Hita Karana, which says, “The Universe can only attain perfect balance when God, Man, and Nature live in harmony”. And when we finally reached our cottage it actually gave us a Mini-Balinese vibe.
It is almost impossible to fall out of love when you are here. The breathtaking views around you are reasons enough to visit Tamara.
That was our Little Oasis Amidst the Woods
We relaxed for some time in our room (as we were tired from the long drive). It was almost lunch time so we ordered lunch. The alluring spell of the lush green invited us to have lunch in the balcony which made it more delightful.
Who’s up for a lip smacking Lunch with this breathtaking view?
Now it was quite a tough call for us to choose between the plantation tour which was scheduled or to have rest in the room itself.
But as always, the excitement of being in a new place took over all desire to stay in the comfort of a cozy bed. So we naturally chose to join the plantation tour, accompanied by Ashwath our guide, we set off on the 2.5 km trail through the property.
From the rich colored coffee beans to the fresh aroma of pepper throughout the trail, it was one of the uniquely curated experience that our package had.
‘Blossom to Brew’- Freshly plucked Cacao & Peppercorns
Tamara has such a rich bio-diversity of flora and fauna, that it definitely can be a paradise for nature observers. There are also beautiful waterfalls in the property which have their source in the mountain springs. Unfortunately at that time they were not in their full glory as they must be during the monsoons.
Beautiful leaves surrounding the Emerald forest reflecting pure shades of Green
Home to tress like-Silver oak, Rosewood, Wild Figs etc.
We were having that uncontrollable urge to take pictures of the wilderness during our walk, that it was a task selecting and finalizing pictures from the huge dump. As we loved every bit of it. After that the electric buggy took us to our cottage. We reached our cozy cottage, freshened up, had a hot & relaxing shower and we called it a day.
Our Mornings at Tamara
The best part of the mornings at Tamara was waking up to the sound of chirping of the birds. That soothing feeling gave us a vibe that we are somewhere in the lap of mother earth. This was when, I was telling Akshay, how badly we are going to miss these morning alarms from nature, once we are back home and back to those noisy mornings of the city.
We then sat on our balcony for sometime to enjoy the morning tea with a beautiful view of the Jungle.
Waking up to this
For breakfast, we came down through the winding trails to enjoy a morning walk in the greenery. Clicked some pictures on our way to the restaurant.
Had a wholesome breakfast at the restaurant named The Falls. It is beautifully built on a bridge across the valley, where a natural stream runs underneath. We opted for a table with a gorgeous view of the forest.
Our Evenings at Tamara
After a beautiful sunset we got to know about this stargazing session. So we excitingly joined the group and took some time to gaze at the star-studded clear sky through the telescope. It was one unforgettable experience that we had there.
Since it was Valentine week, a live Karaoke session was organized with some cool musicians at their exclusive restaurant. It has a glass floor at the center, which not only gives a fascinating view of the flora beneath, but is also great for having some fun, dancing and singing with your partner. There was a romantic vibe all around there, as it was a night before valentine’s day.
Time to hit the stage with a mic and some favorite romantic hits, Sing it out !!
Unlike Akshay, I just love singing, but so nice of him that he accompanied me to the stage, it was his first time though 😉 We sang our two most favorite songs together, the audience was supportive and cheerful. It was a fun night.
Cut to valentine’s Eve, which was our third night at Tamara. We were so excited to have a great time with our favorite band- When Chai Met Toast, performing there.
They played some of our favorite songs which was just the icing on the cake. We then hit the dance floor for some slow dancing while the band was playing some romantic numbers. This actually made our First Valentines a very memorable one.
Coming back to our lovely cottage, recalling all the beautiful moments, that’s how our day ended on a sweet note as you can see in the picture.

A Byword for Sustainability- Best Part About Tamara Coorg
The Tamara Coorg is spread over 180 acres at an altitude of 3,500 feet above sea level. We always have a thing for Eco-Friendly hotels/resorts, which is why Tamara has a special place in our hearts. At Tamara an uncompromising eco-friendly infrastructure and unexpected oasis of luxury comfort beautifully coexist.
10/10 for their sustainable switch
The way they nurture sustainability by adopting natural and wholesome living, simply took our hearts.
Here are some of their initiatives which we observed and loved during our stay-
- Their on-ground carbon footprint is quite responsible. They have kept it minimal by using timber bridge structures and shingles roof.
- Encouraging recycling & composting which is actually the need of the hour.
- Unlike many luxury resorts, they use refillable glass bottles instead of single use plastic ones, organic soaps and bamboo toothbrushes for toiletries. And have reusable flip-flops placed in all cottages as an initiative to avoid wastage which is respectful to the environment as well.
- Planted many native and other plants on the winding trails, which binds the soil near the edges and prevents soil erosion.
- No use of chemicals or pesticides on the plants and let the natural habitat stay wild and pure.
- Utilization of solar power to preserve competing resources.
- Boosting the local economy by hiring locals as 60% of their staff.
We always wish our vacation could last forever. But this reality always hits right on the face. So it was our last day at Tamara an end of a blissful trip. It was like a little piece of Heaven in Coorg. A surreal experience in nature, dipped in luxury.
If you guys are looking for a Remote & Luxury yet Sustainable Vacation and break from the busy city streets, blaring of horns, polluted air, and the monotonous daily lifestyle, in short from the concrete jungle, reserve your stay at The Tamara Coorg and thank us later! 😉
